A fire broke out on Friday in a parking lot in Prior Velho, Lisbon, near Humberto Delgado Airport. Rental cars are parked at the location.
The information was confirmed by the Sub-Regional Command of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, which stated that “several cars are burning.”
According to the same source, the fire alert, given at 5:58 PM, reported a fire in a “car dealership.”
Around 8:15 PM, the fire was still “active.” At least 140 firefighters are combating the fire, and there are more than 40 vehicles supporting the firefighting efforts, which are being carried out with “foam,” a more suitable material for vehicle fires.
Upon arrival at the scene, the operatives found that it was a fire in a parking lot located on Rua Professor Henrique de Barros.
According to the District Command of Relief Operations (CDOS) of Lisbon, the evacuation of surrounding residences is not, for now, being considered.
The Camarate Volunteer Firefighters posted images of the fire on social media, and from these, a large cloud of smoke can be seen in the area.
