An 11-month-old girl died today in Arcozelo, Vila Nova de Gaia, after falling into the swimming pool at her residence, as revealed to Lusa by Olímpio Pereira, Commander of the Aguda Fire Department.
According to Civil Protection, the alert was given at 12:58 PM. Upon arrival of the firefighters and the ambulance from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), the child had already been removed from the water.
Commander Olímpio Pereira explained that the baby was already in the living room of the house “without vital signs,” and that “resuscitation attempts were carried out for a long time, but without success.”
The National Republican Guard (GNR) took charge of the incident.
According to the Sub-Regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection of the Porto Metropolitan Area, the Judicial Police were also called to the scene.
As of 3:25 PM, the girl’s body was still awaiting transport to the Porto Institute of Legal Medicine.
