Castelo Branco is the only municipality in the district that has a 5G offer provided by Meo, Nos and Vodafone, the three operators that provide this service in Portugal.
The information is provided by Anacom, the National Communications Authority, which took stock of the number of base stations installed in Portugal.
In the last quarter of last year, the technology already reached 98 percent of the country’s municipalities and about half of all parishes.
Compared to Q3 2022 this represents a 35 percent increase in 5G base stations.
Nos is the company with the most base stations installed, followed by Vodafone and Meo.
Alandroal, Pedrógão Grande, Portel, Sousel, Vila Viçosa, and Corvo are the only counties where the technology was not yet present at the end of last year.
Regarding the Castelo Branco district, the map provided by Anacom shows that with the exception of the Castelo Branco municipality, all the other municipalities have two 5G operators installed on the ground.
Even so, the regulator assumes that the intermunicipal communities of Beira Baixa and Beiras e Serra da Estrela are among those where “the number of 5G base stations is significantly lower than in other regions of the country.
