In a statement, the Territorial Command of Guarda reported that, as part of an investigation to determine the causes of a forest fire, the military personnel from the Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA) of Vilar Formoso found that the fire was caused by the use of a brush cutter with a metal disc.
The GNR specified that the fire, which occurred in the locality of Ade, consumed an area of low-lying scrub, putting the surrounding forest at risk.
During the investigation, the perpetrator was identified and named as a suspect, and the brush cutter was seized. The facts were communicated to the Judicial Court of Guarda.
The GNR reminded that on days considered to have Very High and Maximum fire risk, it is prohibited to use brush cutters, brush mowers, and shredders, as well as the use of large discs.
To report infractions or clarify doubts, the GNR emphasizes that the SOS Environment and Territory Line (808 200 520) can be used, which operates permanently.
