The Municipality of Vouzela, in the district of Viseu, will host in April 2024 the World Championship of Skyrunning veterans, announced today the organization.
According to the International Skyrunning Federation (ISF), the World Championships will be held in Spain, from September 6th to 8th, later this year, while the second edition of the Masters Championships will take place in Portugal, on April 13th and 14th, 2024, in Vouzela.
“It is with great pride and enthusiasm that the municipality of Vouzela will host the World Skyrunning Masters Championships. It represents an exceptional opportunity for Vouzela to affirm its tourism potential”, said the mayor.
Rui Ladeira added that this is a way for the municipality to “show itself to the world as a great stage for the practice of sports in nature, in particular, Skyrunning.
He also wished the competition to be “a great moment of overcoming challenges, joy, and celebration of sport.”
The organizer of the 2021 European Championships and the Zela Ultra Marathon, Sérgio Tavares, also highlighted the “great joy” of Portugal “to once again host an international event, this time in Vouzela.
“With a focus on the Caramulo mountain. We are excited to provide athletes from all over the world with a challenging and adrenaline-filled event,” added Sérgio Tavares.
This responsible also highlighted that the event will bring to Portugal “teams from all over the world” that “will try to win the prestigious medals and titles at stake.
