Casino Lisboa prepares four special concerts during WYD

From August 2 to 5, there are several shows with free admission at Arena Lounge. Cuca Roseta performs on the first night.

Lisbon is already noticing the presence of thousands of pilgrims and there is no shortage of World Youth Day events scheduled throughout the city. Casino Lisboa, in Parque das Nações, has prepared a very special event for this week.

From August 2 to 5, Arena Lounge will host a different concert every night. On Wednesday, the party starts at 9 pm, with a concert by Cuca Roseta. “Meu” will be the focus of this performance, without neglecting the fado classics that led her to where she is today. This latest album is the one that the fado singer considers the truest. Therefore, it should be an emotional show.

“It makes perfect sense for us to be associated with World Youth Day. We are partners by providing the Oceanos Auditorium for a cultural event, the musical D. Bosco, organized by the Salesian community. In addition, the summer entertainment program was designed taking into account the specificities of WYD. There are four concerts with several points in common. They are Lusophone artists, who identify with a young audience and provide a festive atmosphere that we intend to be the matrix of this event”, says Paulo Bertão, commercial director of Casino Lisboa.

On August 3, the distinctive atmosphere of the “Rua das Pretas” project takes the stage. What was born from just a meeting of musicians, promoted by Pierre Aderne, became a show that for three years sold out sessions every Saturday in a palace in Príncipe Real. In 2019, it took a leap, reaching coliseums and, later, internationalized to cities like Paris or New York. Therefore, it is no wonder that names such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Ana Moura, Carminho, José Eduardo Agualusa and Valter Hugo Mãe have passed through “Rua das Pretas” over time. The performance is scheduled for 23 hours.

Considered one of the recent revelations of Portuguese music, Nena is the protagonist of the third day of this cycle of concerts. The Lisbon-born singer wrote her first song at the age of 12, but only at 26 did she release her first album, “Ao Fundo da Rua”. The pop artist brings this novelty to Casino do Estoril, after having sold out the Salão Preto e Prata of Casino Estoril in the presentation of the album, in December 2022.

The concerts end with a Brazilian vibe, by the voice of Ruane Ballmant on August 5. The composer and performer offers her best repertoire combining bossa nova and jazz classics. The audience will be able to follow the singer, who will interpret themes in several languages, from Portuguese to English, including French.

From Thursday to Saturday, all concerts have free admission. The organization intends that the shows “attract and mobilize WYD participants to visit the space”.

It is important to remember that after 10 p.m., children under 10 are not allowed to enter the space. Visitors aged between 10 and 14 must always be accompanied by an adult.
