Mooring of plane fighting fire in Castelo Branco causes material damage

The mooring, at the Pracana dam, of an airplane that was participating in the fight against the fire that is plowing in Santo André das Tojeiras, municipality of Castelo Branco, only caused material damage, with the pilot leaving unharmed, informed Civil Protection.

According to the commander of the Sub-regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection of Castelo Branco, Pedro Nunes, the mooring occurred in the Pracana dam, “about an hour ago”.

“The pilot was unharmed and at this moment [17:45] we are still assessing the damage to the plane,” Pedro Nunes told Lusa news agency.

The Pracana dam is located on the Ocreza river at the mouth of the Pracana stream, between the municipalities of Mação (district of Santarém) and Vila Velha de Ródão, in the district of Castelo Branco.

According to the Sub-regional Commander of Emergency and Civil Protection of Castelo Branco it is an amphibious Fire Boss aircraft that was fighting the fire that is plowing in a forest stand in Santo André das Tojeiras, Castelo Branco municipality, since 15:09.

He also said that the fire “is not yet under control”.

At 18:00, 302 operatives were on the scene fighting the fire, supported by 90 vehicles and 10 air resources.
