More than 80 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Portalegre, Santarém, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Viseu, Vila Real and Bragança present a maximum danger of rural fire today, according to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
IPMA also placed about 80 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Beja, Santarém, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Leiria, Lisbon, Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda, Porto, Aveiro, Braga, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Bragança in very high danger.
Other municipalities in all districts of the continent are in high fire danger today.
Because of the weather conditions, the fire danger will remain high until at least Friday.
This risk, determined by the IPMA, has five levels, ranging from low to maximum and the calculations are obtained from the air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.
Since the beginning of the year, the 5,992 fire incidents have affected 27,539 hectares of rural areas.
The IPMA predicts for today in the continent little cloudy or clear sky, more intense wind in the western coastal strip south of Cabo da Roca and in the highlands, possibility of formation of fog or morning fog in some places and small decrease of the minimum temperature in the South region.
Minimum temperatures will range between 12 degrees Celsius (in Vila Real and Viseu) and 20 (in Faro) and maximum temperatures between 24 (in Porto and Viana do Castelo) and 35 (in Castelo Branco).
