The president of the PSD proposed today in Quarteira, Algarve, a reduction this year in IRS rates in all but the last bracket, a measure that would be financed by the surplus of tax revenue.
In the traditional Festa do Pontal that marks the political “rentrée” of the Social Democrats, Luís Montenegro advanced with a “global tax reform program” of which “five immediate measures” are part.
“The PSD will not jeopardize the balance of public accounts”, assured the PSD leader, stating that there is enough budgetary slack to take these measures, which he considered a priority.
According to the social-democratic leader, the first of these measures would allow a decrease in the IRS by 1.2 billion euros still in 2023, allowing a decrease of about 10% in the marginal IRS rate up to the sixth bracket.
