Grândola’s August Fair once again focuses on music and traditions

The August Fair returns to the town of Grândola (Setúbal) between the 24th and 28th, with concerts by Wet Bed Gang, Karetus, Carolina Deslandes, among others, and a focus on promoting the territory and traditions.

The event, which will be held at the Grândola Fair and Exhibition Park”, will feature around 400 exhibitors from the most varied areas of the regional economy.

According to a statement issued by the municipality of Grândola, the fair is considered “the main showcase for the potential and resources” of the region, attracting “thousands of visitors” to the venue every year.

In addition to the concerts on the main stage, the August Fair program also highlights traditions linked to handicrafts and equestrian activities.

The event kicks off with concerts by Wet Bed Gang and Karetus (24) and continues with Carolina Deslandes (25), Gipsy Kings by Diego Baliardo (26), Banda da Sociedade Musical Fraternidade Operária Grandolense invites Tim (27) and Calema (28) to close.

Throughout the five days, an exhibition will be on display in the municipality’s space, located in the central nave, depicting the development of the municipality, with a special focus on nature and the environment, culture, heritage, housing, urban regeneration, sport and youth.

As in previous years, the fairground will host an Equestrian Festival – which this year marks its 25th anniversary – an Equestrian Gala, a Sevillanas Show and a demonstration of the Art of Camping.

In the Rural Square, located between the arena and the Olive Tree Garden, the Animal Tent will host an exhibition of cattle, sheep and goats, with the participation of the main representatives of brands linked to the sector.

The program also includes “a series of talks on innovative themes in the area of agriculture and livestock”, says the municipality.

The event also has an area near the main entrance to the fair where there will be more than 40 artisans working live and an exhibition of wooden toys, cork work, wrought iron, jewelry, basketry and ceramics.

“The best of the region’s gastronomy can also be enjoyed in the restaurants and bars located throughout the main area of the August Fair, as well as in the taverns and regional products area,” says the local authority.

The region’s wines will once again be highlighted at the event in a wine area, located in the so-called “restaurant street”, which will be promoted by the Alentejo Coast Wine Producers Association with tastings and product sales.

According to the promoters, this year around 200 fairgoers and 16 amusements for adults and children are expected in the “reorganized space” of the free fair, which has received “a new boulevard”, crossing the terrado area, with the aim of guaranteeing “more and better safety and comfort conditions for fairgoers and visitors”.

The reinforcement of the electricity and Wi-Fi networks, the installation of new directional signs, the Baby Space and a tourist train service that runs between the fair and strategic points in the town are some of the new features of the event.
