The fire currently raging in the parish of Castelo Branco, in Mogadouro (Bragança district), has forced the IC5 and National Road 221 to be cut off, an official GNR source told Lusa today.
According to the GNR, the IC5 is closed between the Castelo Branco junction and the Mogadouro junction, and the National 221 is also closed between Castelo Branco and the town of Mogadouro.
A large fire is currently raging in the towns of Castelo Branco and Vale de Porco, mobilizing 203 operatives, 68 land resources and nine air resources at 17:20, according to the official website of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC).
The flames were alerted at 12:47 p.m. and in the early afternoon, the Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Commander for Terras de Trás-os-Montes, João Noel Afonso, said that “the fire started very violently and suddenly”.
According to the commander, there are no people or property in danger in this area of the fire, which is burning in an area of scrubland.
