A total of 12,438 young people were supported by the Porta 65 program, an increase of 19%, following the call for applications, which ran from 28 April to 30 May, the Ministry of Housing announced today.
In a statement, Minister Marina Gonçalves’ office said that, following the application period for the Porta-65 Jovem Program, all eligible applications were approved, with a total of 12,438 young people receiving support, which represents an increase of 19% over the same period last year.
According to the note, these young people will receive support to pay their rent later this month.
The housing minister’s office recalls that the April 2023 tender was the first in which the maximum rent ceilings were raised.
“This was also the last competition with fixed application periods. Since June, young people have been able to apply to the program all year round (continuously) at https://www.portaldahabitacao.pt/pt/porta65j/index.html”, the note adds.
Single or cohabiting young people aged 18 or over but under 35 can be covered by the rental incentive program. In a couple, one of the members can be 36 and the other 34 at the most.
According to information available on the Housing portal, if the application is approved, the young person is entitled to support (subsidy) to pay the rent for 12 months.
“The grant corresponds to a percentage of the young person’s rent and is transferred to the NIB indicated on the application by the 8th of each month. This percentage decreases every 12 months until the third year of support,” the website states.
The first grant is awarded after the outcome of the competition and is not retroactive. It can be extended up to a maximum of five years, or 60 monthly installments.
