The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has placed eight districts in mainland Portugal under a yellow warning due to heavy rainfall that could occur from late afternoon and early evening.
The districts of Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, Braga, Porto and Aveiro are under a yellow warning from 18:00 until 00:00 on Monday, due to “heavy rain” which will change to “showers”, warns the IPMA on its website.
The same warning has been issued for the districts of Viseu, Coimbra and Leiria, but it will only be in force from 21:00 today and will last until 03:00 on Monday.
The IPMA issues a yellow warning whenever there is a risk to certain activities depending on the weather situation.
In addition to the heavy rain expected from the afternoon onwards for those districts, the forecast for today in the country points to strong wind on the north and central coasts and in the highlands from the afternoon onwards.
Maximum temperatures are expected to oscillate between 5 degrees Celsius (in Guarda) and 17 (in Setúbal), while minimum temperatures will be between -3 (in Bragança) and 8 (in Aveiro).
