Irish company asks government to “stop wasting time on ‘studies’ and ‘commissions'”.
The Independent Technical Commission (CTI) considered Montijo to be an unviable option for increasing airport capacity, but Ryanair is asking the government to move ahead immediately with the creation of a new infrastructure in that municipality on the south bank of the Tagus.
The airline is calling on the government to “stop wasting time on ‘studies’ and ‘commissions’ and deliver much-needed growth in air transport and tourism to Lisbon”. In a statement, it said that “the solution to Lisbon’s capacity crisis is obvious and lies just across the bay in Montijo”.
Ryanair is therefore calling for “the urgent opening of Montijo Airport following yesterday’s announcement by the Independent Technical Commission on the new airport in the Lisbon area”, in order to “provide Lisbon and Portugal with the additional connectivity and tourism/jobs growth needed to stimulate the economy.”
The Strategic Environmental Assessment coordinated by the Independent Technical Commission concluded that the Humberto Delgado + Alcochete Shooting Range option is the most advantageous, taking into account the criteria analyzed. Montijo is considered unviable.
