Alfredo Vasconcelos, organizer of the Boom Festival, has died

Alfredo Vasconcelos, one of the promoters of the Boom Festival, died today of cancer at the age of 58, an official source confirmed to Lusa.

Since 2004, Alfredo Vasconcelos had been one of the four partners of Good Mood, the company that owns the share capital of the activities related to Boom, the biennial festival that takes place in Idanha-a-Nova, in the Castelo Branco district.

Speaking to the Lusa news agency, a source from the festival’s organizers said that “a great friend” had died.

“Alfredo was a permanent supporter. Attentive and available, he always made a point of taking the relationship with Idanha and the region a little further, a commitment to the roots,” the press release says about the death of this festival promoter.

An official Boom Festival source added that Alfredo Vasconcelos lived with the team “20 years of great intensity and joy”.

The businessman had been ill for some years, but he was “very active and very involved” in last year’s edition, which brought together 39,000 people from 178 countries and 1,128 artists.

On the social network Facebook, the Centro de Portugal Regional Tourism Authority mourned the death of Alfredo Vasconcelos, who it considers “an irreparable loss for the Centro de Portugal region”, as he was “a visionary”.

The organization highlighted the importance of the Boom Festival “for its sustainable approach and the positive impact it has on the territory and the lives of its inhabitants”, and praised the role of the administrator, who gave himself to the event “wholeheartedly and with great generosity”.

“Their commitment has elevated Idanha-a-Nova to reference status on the international music festival scene. Boom is now a festival recognized all over the world,” Turismo do Centro said in the same press release.

Alfredo Vasconcelos died yesterday at around 08:00.

Good Mood is expected to remain with a four-shareholder structure in the future.
