The authorization for the allocation of costs for the rehabilitation of the Vouga Line, between Águeda and Aveiro, for a total amount of 4.35 million euros, was published today in the Diário da República.
The order, issued by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), authorizes the assumption of multi-annual costs relating to the contract for the “Vouga Line – between Águeda and Aveiro – renovation of the track superstructure – execution”, provided for in the National Investment Plan 2030.
The document clarifies that the contract, with a base price of 4.35 million euros, has a multi-year execution, covering the years 2024 and 2025, with the object to be contracted falling within the procedures necessary for the implementation of the National Investment Plan 2030.
The allocation determines a sum of 600,000 euros for the year 2024 and a tranche of 3.75 million euros for 2025, with the amount set for each financial year being able to be increased by the balance from the previous year.
At its meeting on February 1, IP’s executive board of directors also decided to launch the pre-contractual procedure necessary to contract the execution of the “Vouga Line – between Águeda and Aveiro – Renewal of the track superstructure – Execution”, for the sum of 4.35 million euros.
This intervention joins others that are underway and will continue in phases until 2025, for an estimated total of 34 million euros.
The plan covers the 96-kilometre length of the Vouga Line, between Espinho and Aveiro, and includes the renewal of the track superstructure, with the complete replacement of rails, sleepers and fastenings, track ballasting and heavy mechanical attack, as well as the automation of level crossings.
At the moment, according to an IP source, the renovation of the Sernada do Vouga – Águeda and Vila da Feira – Oliveira de Azeméis sections has been completed and, in the first quarter of this year, work is due to start on the renovation of the section between Oliveira de Azeméis and Sernada do Vouga.
According to IP, the rehabilitation of the Vouga Line will bring several benefits, including improved mobility, improved safety by reducing accidents and congestion, and shorter journey times.
