The digital documents available on the id.gov mobile application, a digital wallet, such as a driving license or citizen’s card, already have the same legal value as physical documents, according to legislation already in force.
The recognition of the same legal validity as that of physical documents for documents available in the id.gov digital wallet is the result of an amendment to Law 19-A/2024, published last Wednesday and which came into force the following day.
This legislative amendment determines that “documents, titles or licenses in digital format and their respective data presented in real time to third parties in national territory”, through that application, “are presumed to conform to the original documents, having equal legal and probative value”.
id.gov.pt is a mobile application that allows you to save, consult and share, via your cell phone (smartphone), the data of the identification documents that are available in the app.
Identification documents issued by the Portuguese State to Portuguese citizens, such as the Citizen’s Card, the Driving License, the Single Automobile Document (DUA) or the ADSE health card for civil servants, are examples of documents that can be added to the id.gov.pt app by nationals who have an active Digital Mobile Key (CMD).
This Public Administration application allows ID cards to be stored and consulted at any time, reproducing an authentic and certified image of the ID documents, authenticated using the Digital Mobile Key.
