Portuguese swimmer Diogo Ribeiro became world champion in the 100-meter butterfly at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar, repeating the title he won in the 50-meter butterfly event.
Diogo Ribeiro won the race in 51.17 seconds, a new national record, after having already achieved the best time in the semi-finals on Friday, with a Portuguese maximum (51.30).
On Monday, the Benfica swimmer had already won the world title in the 50-meter butterfly, Portugal’s first ever in pure swimming, after finishing runner-up in 2023 in Fukuoka, to claim Portugal’s first medal.
