The roads crossing the central massif of Serra da Estrela are closed to traffic this morning due to snowfall, a Civil Protection source told Lusa news agency.
According to the Beiras and Serra da Estrela Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command, sections 11 (Piornos – Torre), number 12 (Torre – Torre), number 13 (Torre – Lagoa Comprida) and section 9 (Piornos – Manteigas), in the district of Guarda, are closed.
Access began to be closed early Monday evening.
The Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA) has issued a yellow warning for the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga due to the forecast of snowfall above 600/800 meters, with accumulation above 800/1000 meters between 09:00 today and 09:00 Wednesday.
