PJ raids Cascais town hall over mask factory

The Judiciary Police (PJ) is conducting searches at Cascais Town Hall in connection with the creation of the first surgical mask factory in the municipality in the context of the covid-19 pandemic, a source from the municipality told Lusa.

The same source said he didn’t know the motives or the targets of the searches, but assured that the municipality was cooperating with the authorities.

The news was first reported by Sábado magazine.

In June 2020, the Cascais City Council, in the Lisbon district, launched its own production of masks for the population.

The municipality provided 400 dispensers with masks throughout the county and distributed them free of charge to users of public transport, where this equipment was mandatory following the covid-19 prevention measures.

Contacted by Lusa, a source from the Judicial Police confirmed that the search had been carried out at Cascais Town Hall, with the aim of “gathering information”, but declined to give further details.
