The National Teachers’ Federation (Fenprof) disagrees with the government’s proposal for the recovery of length of service and announced today that it will propose that, instead of 20%, 33% be returned each year.
“The recovery of the six years, six months and 23 days should take place at the rate of 33% per year, as is our proposal, and not at the rate of 20% per year,” said Francisco Gonçalves, deputy general secretary of Fenprof, at a press conference.
The Program of the XXIV Constitutional Government provides for the recovery of teachers’ length of service over five years, with 20% being accounted for each year.
The proposal should begin to be discussed from the end of next week, at the first meetings already scheduled by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MECI) with the unions.
As well as wanting faster recovery, Fenprof wants guarantees that, at the end of the process, all teachers will see their nine years, four months and two days – the total time their careers were frozen – recovered, regardless of whether they are in active service or already retired.
