The National Network for Integrated Continuing Care (RNCCI) has been reinforced with 180 more beds, in the Convalescence (UC), Medium Duration and Rehabilitation (UMDR) and Long Duration and Maintenance (ULDM) typologies, it was announced today.

With these openings, the RNCCI has a total installed capacity of 9,737 beds in these typologies, says the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service (DE-SNS) in a statement.

Currently, under the RNCCI, there are 1,289 Convalescence beds, 3,264 Medium Duration and Rehabilitation beds, 5,184 Long Duration and Maintenance beds and 6,024 places in Integrated Continued Care Teams. There are 166 places in Palliative Care.

According to the DE-SNS, the total installed capacity is now 16,479 – beds and home care – which corresponds to an annual financial burden on the state of around 350 million euros.

A government order, published in December, authorized the Social Security Institute and the Central Administration of the Health System to take on multi-annual commitments for the three-year period 2023-2025, for extensions to the program-contracts under execution within the scope of the RNCCI.
