TST workers reject company’s wage increase proposal

Workers at Transportes Sul do Tejo (TST) today rejected the company’s proposal for a pay rise and will submit a counter-proposal and are prepared to go on strike, a union source told Lusa.

According to Anabela Carvalheira, from the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (FECTRANS), the company presented a proposal for a minimum increase of 60 euros, but the workers are demanding an increase of 80 euros.

The company is also proposing an increase in the meal allowance to 7.30 euros paid by meal card, but the workers are rejecting the proposal because they believe the amount should be 10 euros in cash, since the current prices of meals away from home are higher than the figure presented.

The union leader also said that the workers who took part in today’s general plenary session, between 11:00 and 14:00, at the company’s premises in Laranjeiro, in the municipality of Almada, have decided that if there is no positive response from the company to the counter-proposal, they are prepared to go ahead with a 24-hour strike, on a day to be defined.

“The workers are prepared to fight if there is no response from the company,” he said, adding that if a strike is called, it should take place at the end of April or beginning of May.

TST serves the municipalities of Almada, Seixal and Sesimbra, in the district of Setúbal, and according to the union leader has a total of 900 workers.
