Man’s body found on Vale Furado beach in Alcobaça

It seems that the body may belong to the 22-year-old man who had been missing since April 13.

The body of a man was found lifeless at dawn this Sunday, April 21, on the sandy beach of Vale Furado, in the municipality of Alcobaça.

The body was found on the beach at around 5 a.m., the National Maritime Authority (AMN) said in a statement.

The Nazaré Maritime Police, the Alcobaça Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Pataias Volunteer Fire Brigade Humanitarian Association were sent to the scene.

On arrival, the health officer was only able to certify the death.

After steps were taken by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judicial Police, the “body was transported to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Leiria”.

It seems that the body may belong to the 22-year-old man who had been missing since April 13.

Two men were reported missing that day in Praia da Vieira, in the municipality of Marinha Grande, where the mouth of the River Lis is located.

The second man, aged 26, was rescued alive and taken to Leiria Hospital.

According to information given at the time by the Leiria sub-regional command of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, a drowning situation was reported, which “evolved into a search and rescue” of the missing man.

The Nazaré Maritime Police took charge of the incident.
