A22-year-oldmanwasarrested in the city of Ponta Delgada, on the Azorean island of São Miguel, on suspicion of a crime of violent robbery, the Public Security Police (PSP) revealed this Wednesday in a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto.
According to the police, the PSP was called to the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital because a man had been admitted with several bumps on his head and had been the target of a violent robbery in the early hours of the morning, in an area close to the Sanctuary of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres.
The PSP also said that the accused, after coming across the victim, with whom he had never had any contact, put a plastic bag over her head and hit her several times, both on the face and on other parts of her body, causing her to bleed.
After the assault, which caused the victim to fall and make it impossible for him to defend himself, the suspect robbed him of his money, cell phone and other belongings.
The PSP quickly identified the suspect, who is linked to three other theft crimes, one of which was at a local accommodation in Ponta Delgada, and arrested him.
After being brought before a judge for first questioning, the man, who had no criminal record, was released. The defendant must now report daily to the police station closest to his home and undergo drug treatment.
