Parliament opens its doors for free visits with exhibitions, theater and music on April 25

The Assembly of the Republic and the House of Parliament – Interpretive Centre will be open to the public during the afternoon of April 25 to mark the 50th anniversary of the revolution, with a program that includes exhibitions, theater and music.

According to the “Parliament with open doors” program, published by the Assembly of the Republic, the Palace of São Bento and the new interpretive center, located a few meters away, will be open for free visits between 15:30 and 19:00 on the 25th.

At the parliament, the scene of the country’s main political debates, educational activities such as sowing carnations or a poster workshop are planned.

At 4:30 p.m. there will be a performance by the Young Portuguese Orchestra in the interior garden, and the exhibition “A Nós a Liberdade – Vieira da Silva”, by painter Maria Helena Vieira da Silva (1908-1992), “an artist with a strong civic conscience who lived through April 25, 1974”, will be available for visitors.

The program also includes theatrical animations, with “six travelers” who will go around the Palace and interact with the public, asking for recommendations and opinions on April 25.

At the Passos Manuel Library, citizens will be able to deposit their memories of April in a small “memory box”.

Also open to the public for the first time is the Casa do Parlamento – Interpretation Center, located in front of the parliament, which gathers information about parliamentary activity.

The exhibition “PREC – Parliament Revised in Caricature. Parliament in Press Cartoons 1974-76”, and there will be activities such as “Story time: Wings of Freedom” or the creation of a collective mural drawing about freedom, aimed at children over the age of six.
