Several media outlets report that the woman had a Portuguese passport when she was arrested. Presented in court this Monday, she was granted conditional bail.
The woman who was filmed having sex with a prisoner was brought before Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in the UK on Monday, accused of inappropriate conduct.
Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, sat in the dock only to confirm her name, address and date of birth, reports Sky News.
The case became public on Friday when a video of the moment went viral and London’s Metropolitan Police launched an urgent investigation into the case.
The video shows Linda having sex with an inmate in a cell at Wandsworth prison in London between June 26 and 28. The video was filmed by the inmate’s cellmates.
According to the indictment, the prison guard “deliberately and without excuse or reasonable justification committed a sexual act with a prisoner in a prison cell”.
According to the court, says Sky News, Linda was arrested at Heathrow Airport as she was about to take a flight to Madrid in Spain.
Although some media report that the suspect is of Brazilian nationality, others – such as Sky News, the Daily Mail, the Evening Standard or the Extra website – report that the woman had a Portuguese passport when she was arrested.
“A Portuguese passport was seized by the police when she was arrested. She is a Portuguese citizen,” prosecutor Niamh McDonagh told the court.
The Portuguese passport must remain in the possession of the police and the woman will not be able to try to recover it. In addition, she has been banned from applying for or possessing international travel documents and will have to hand over the Portuguese citizen’s card with which she could travel.
The court eventually granted her conditional bail and she will now have to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on July 29.
