Until Thursday, the temperature is expected to rise gradually, especially the maximum.

After a few days of precipitation and cooler weather, hot days are now expected in mainland Portugal and the temperature is forecast to rise, according to the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

This rise in temperature began today and is associated with a change in the weather, “which is expected to remain stable throughout this week due to the action of an anticyclonic ridge”.

According to the IPMA, until Thursday, July 4, “a gradual rise in temperature is expected, especially the maximum, with values in the order of 30/35°C in most of the territory, being higher than 35°C in some places in the interior, especially in the southern region, where locally 39-40°C could be reached in the interior of the Alentejo”.

On the west coast “maximum temperatures are expected to vary between 25/30°C and occasionally lower in some places along the coast, due to the effect of the north and the occurrence of morning mist or fog”.

The IPMA indicates that “no significant variations in the weather are expected over the remaining days of the week, characterized by stable weather and a northerly regime on the coast during the afternoon, although there will be a tendency for a slight drop in temperature over the weekend”.

It should also be noted that this hot weather forecast will place the districts of Évora and Beja under a yellow warning between Tuesday and Thursday.

According to the IPMA, this yellow warning due to the persistence of high maximum temperatures will come into force at 3pm on Tuesday, July 2, and will remain in force until at least 6pm on Thursday, July 4.
