More than 35 artists will be performing at the 10th edition of Summer Opening, considered Madeira’s biggest music festival, which kicks off on Friday at Parque de Santa Catarina in Funchal, with Da Weasel in the spotlight, the organization said today.
“Urban music takes center stage, while new vibes, genres and sounds are explored. A unique and always vibrant atmosphere that merges with the beauty of Santa Catarina Park, a natural amphitheatre overlooking a perfect setting, Funchal and the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop,” the organization said in a statement.
Summer Opening takes place over two weekends – July 12, 13, 19 and 20 – and the artists will be spread over two stages, with a total of more than 32 hours of music.
“The 10th edition of Summer Opening is marked by the return of Da Weasel to Madeira, after more than 15 years,” the organization points out, noting that Funchal will thus be the third city in the country to host the band’s return after sold-out concerts at NOS Alive in Lisbon and MEO Marés Vivas in Porto.
The organization is also highlighting the debuts in the autonomous region of the Brazilian ‘trap’ band Veigh and the Germans Milky Chance, performers of the hit “Stolen Dance”.
This edition will also be marked by the “consecration” of Van Zee from Madeira, the first time in the festival’s history that an artist from the region will close the event.
On Friday, in addition to Da Weasel, Sérgio Godinho, Eu.Clides, Duailibi/Rui Cargas, Djeff, Pita and Sini will perform.
On Saturday, the show will be hosted by Revenge Of The 90’s and King Africa, Melão (Excesso), Batatinha e Companhia/Sam The Kid (DJ Set) and DJ Big Hosted by Sir Scrtach, DJ Glue B2B Shaka Lion, Fabz and Taby.
On July 19, Veigh, Ivandro, Julinho KSD, Zarco/Beatbombers, Noia, GMO and Marlokov take to the stage, while on July 20 Milky Chance, Van Zee, Pedro Mafama, Maya Blandy/Nuno Lopes, Zen Baboon, Jay Camara and Vitor Batista perform.
“A real summer tribute party. Ten years of history that have already provided around 150 performances and more than 50 live debuts in Madeira,” the organization points out, indicating that tickets for the festival are on sale at summeropening.pt, FNAC stores, Worten and ticketline.
