The Casa do Povo de Briteiros, in Guimarães, raised more than half of the 85,000 euros needed to buy a plot of land to build a retirement home at the Rock no Rio Febras festival on Saturday.
Speaking to Lusa today, the president of the Casa do Povo de Briteiros, Vasco Marques, said that they hadn’t raised the full amount of money to buy the land, which is 85,000 euros, but they had raised more than half of that amount, without specifying how much.
“This is already a great help in achieving our goal,” he said.
The aim of buying the land, which remains the same, is to build a home for the elderly, he said.
The income from the festival, which is free to enter, comes from the sale of drinks, food and merchandise, explained Vasco Marques.
He pointed out that Rock no Rio Febras, which took place on Saturday, was attended by around 12,000 people, more than the estimated 10,000.
“It was very positive, it went very well,” he said.
Given the demand, Vasco Marques wants to extend the festival to two days.
This year, the highlight of the festival line-up was the Portuguese debut of the British band The Subways, in a line-up that also included The Legendary Tigerman, Mustang, Sala 7, Zebra Libra, Imploding Stars and Les Dirty Two.
