The fire that had been burning since 6:10 PM on Saturday in Vimioso — which reportedly started due to a thunderstorm — “is now under control,” said a spokesperson for the Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Terras de Trás-os-Montes.
As of 6:00 AM today, firefighting efforts still involved 87 personnel, supported by 37 vehicles.
Also in the Bragança district, around 6:55 PM on Saturday, another smaller fire broke out in Carragosa, Soutelo.
“The fire is burning in areas with difficult access, on very rocky and steep terrain, with a front of about 300 meters,” said the civil protection spokesperson.
As of 6:00 AM today, 84 personnel and 30 vehicles were at the scene.
Before midnight, the Sub-Regional Commander of Emergency and Civil Protection of Terras de Trás-os-Montes, João Noel Afonso, told Lusa that authorities were waiting for the arrival of a second bulldozer to clear a path for firefighting vehicles.
