Five Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency departments remain closed today

According to the emergency schedules published on the SNS Portal at 11:30 PM on Saturday, the Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency departments closed for the weekend are those at Hospital de São Bernardo in Setúbal, Hospital Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Barreiro, Hospital de Vila Franca de Xira, Hospital das Caldas da Rainha, and Hospital de Santo André in Leiria.

The pediatric emergency departments at Beatriz Ângelo Hospital in Loures, Nossa Senhora do Rosário Hospital in Barreiro, and Chaves Hospital will also be closed over the weekend.

According to the same information, pediatric emergencies at Viseu Hospital (from 9 AM to 11 PM) and Fernando da Fonseca Hospital (Amadora-Sintra) during nighttime will be on referral today.

At São Francisco Xavier Hospital in Lisbon, the Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency department is also on referral, meaning it is only reserved for internal emergencies, cases referred by the Urgent Patient Guidance Centers (CODU) of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), and the SNS 24 hotline.

Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon and Garcia de Orta Hospital in Almada will also only receive referred cases.

The SNS Executive Board urges the population to “always call the SOS Pregnant Line [808 24 24 24] before going to a Gynecology emergency service.”

According to data from the Shared Services of the Ministry of Health (SPMS) released on Friday, the SNS Pregnant Line, which is part of SNS 24, answered 16,141 calls between June 1 and July 26, with 8,268 calls referring to triage conducted in June.

In two months, about 2,490 users were referred to primary health care and 11,209 to hospital emergency services. The SPMS also indicates that 246 were referred to INEM.

The data also reveals that more than 13.5% of pregnant women were advised to stay in self-care.

Regarding the number of calls handled by SNS 24 in the first eight months of the year, the data shows a total of 1,875,560, which is 9,493 less compared to the same period in 2023.

According to the figures, 610,941 users were referred to hospital emergencies and 461,379 to primary health care.
