After a weekend of extreme heat in some regions of mainland Portugal, temperatures will drop… but only slightly and for a short time, according to forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
For Monday, August 12, IPMA predicts temperatures will reach 35ºC in Castelo Branco, 34ºC in Évora, 33ºC in Beja and Faro, and 31ºC in Bragança, Vila Real, Santarém, and Setúbal.
In Lisbon, maximum temperatures should not exceed 28ºC, and in Porto, 25ºC.
On Tuesday, August 13, temperatures will drop a bit more, not exceeding 31ºC (Castelo Branco, Évora, and Faro).
In Lisbon, IPMA predicts maximum temperatures will not exceed 26ºC, and in Porto, 23ºC. Rain is even forecast for Viana do Castelo (with 22ºC).
On Wednesday, August 14, we start to get a sample of what’s to come, with a slight rise in temperatures, returning to 35ºC maximum in Castelo Branco, 34ºC in Évora, 33ºC in Beja, Portalegre, and Faro, and 31ºC in Bragança, Vila Real, Santarém, and Setúbal.
For August 15, the Assumption of Mary holiday, temperatures are expected to reach at least 37ºC in Évora and 36ºC in Santarém.
For Lisbon, IPMA predicts maximum temperatures of 31ºC and for Porto 27ºC, a trend that will continue until the end of the week.
In the Azores, temperatures will be higher than “normal” for the region, as has been the case throughout this summer, reaching 30ºC in all groups throughout the week.
In Madeira, temperatures will vary between 28ºC and 29ºC.
