The first stage of the 2024 Vuelta a España (‘La Vuelta’) cycling race will affect access to parks and monuments managed by Parques de Sintra on Sunday between 11:20 AM and 1:00 PM.
This cycling event will cause traffic restrictions at key points for those intending to visit the National Palaces of Sintra and Pena, the Moorish Castle, Monserrate Park and Palace, and the Capuchos Convent. The only exception is the National Palace of Queluz.
According to a statement from Parques Sintra, the affected locations will be:
• National Road 9, from Linhó to Ramalhão;
• National Road 249, from Ramalhão to Avenida Movimento das Forças Armadas;
• D. Afonso Square (Portela de Sintra);
• Heliodoro Salgado Avenue;
• National Road 247 towards Lourel;
• Vila Verde;
• National Road 9 to Fervença;
• Fação;
• Pêro Pinheiro.
The race will also cause traffic restrictions between the Jerónimos Monastery (Lisbon), Torre (Oeiras), and Cascais.
In this 79th edition of ‘La Vuelta’, the first three stages will start and finish in Portuguese territory. The race begins on August 17 in Lisbon, and the following day, the second stage will connect Cascais to Ourém, passing through Sintra, covering a distance of 194 kilometers.
With the participation of 176 cyclists from 22 teams, ‘La Vuelta 2024’ will have a total of 21 stages and cover more than 3,300 kilometers. The race ends in Madrid on September 8.
