According to information published on the SNS Portal at 09:00, five Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency services are closed in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, namely at Hospital de São Bernardo in Setúbal, Hospital Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Barreiro, Hospital Garcia de Orta in Almada, Hospital São Francisco Xavier, and Hospital Santa Maria (Obstetrics), both in Lisbon. Compared to Tuesday, one more service is closed today: Hospital São Francisco Xavier in Lisbon.
In the central region, the emergency service at Hospital de Santo André in Leiria is closed, and in the Algarve, Hospital de Portimão (Obstetrics) is closed.
The Gynecology and Obstetrics Emergency Service at Hospital Fernando Fonseca (Amadora-Sintra) is referenced between 00:00 and 08:00, and 20:00 and 24:00.
During these periods, these services are reserved for internal emergencies and cases referred by the Urgent Patient Orientation Center (CODU) of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) and the SNS 24 line.
According to the same information, the Pediatric Emergency at Hospital Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Barreiro is closed.
The Pediatric emergencies at Viseu and Amadora-Sintra hospitals are referenced, respectively, between 20:15 and 23:00, and between 00:00 and 08:00 and 20:00 and 24:00.
For Thursday (holiday), seven Gynecology and Obstetrics emergencies are expected to close, four on Friday, seven on Saturday, and six services on Sunday.
Two Pediatric emergencies are also expected to close on Thursday and Friday, four on Saturday, and five on Sunday.
In a report sent to Lusa on Tuesday, the Executive Direction of the National Health Service (SNS) indicates that 114 deliveries were performed last weekend in Lisbon and Tagus Valley, 56 on Saturday and 58 on Sunday.
On Saturday, most deliveries were made at the Loures-Odivelas Local Health Unit, with 12 deliveries, and at MAC, with 15. On Sunday, in addition to Maternidade Alfredo da Costa, with 10 deliveries, most were made at Cascais and Amadora-Sintra hospitals, with 11 deliveries each.
On Monday, when five Gynecology and Obstetrics emergencies were closed, Maternidade Alfredo da Costa (MAC) recorded 98 admissions and performed 25 deliveries, five of which were cesarean sections, the highest number at least since 2013, when 22 deliveries were recorded on a day in January.
The SNS Executive Direction appeals to the population to “always call the SOS Pregnant Line [808 24 24 24] before going to a Gynecology emergency service.”
