Based on weather forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the port authority indicates that the wind will blow from north/northeast “fresh to very fresh, sometimes strong.”
It also indicates that visibility should be “good, sometimes moderate” and the waves will be around three meters on the south coast, and 1.5 meters in the southern part.
Due to this situation, the port authority renews its recommendations to the entire maritime community and the population, including reinforcing the mooring and tight surveillance of docked and anchored vessels.
It also advises against walks near the sea or in areas exposed to sea agitation and the practice of recreational fishing, especially near cliffs and steep areas frequently hit by breaking waves.
All regions of Madeira are the only ones in the country under an orange warning from IPMA for hot weather, which is yellow for the island of Porto Santo.
The yellow warning, the least severe on a three-level scale, is issued by IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation, while the orange warning (the second level) is issued when there is a moderate to high-risk weather situation.
For today, the forecast is for periods of very cloudy sky, with little cloudiness on the southwest slope of Madeira Island.
The wind should be light to moderate from north/northeast, blowing moderate to strong between 30 and 45 kilometers per hour, sometimes with gusts up to 70 kilometers in the highlands, in the eastern and western extremes of Madeira Island and on Porto Santo Island.
