A ten-year-old child and a 20-year-old woman were injured during a bull running event in Coruche. According to local reports, this incident occurred on August 16th, during the last edition of the Festivities in Honor of Our Lady of the Castle, which took place in the municipality of Coruche, Santarém district.
The two young people who were hit suffered bruises and fractures. According to the Commander of the Coruche Municipal Fire Department, cited by the same source, there were six more minor injuries, and firefighters assisted an additional 27 people.
In a statement to SIC Notícias, the Mayor of Coruche, Francisco Oliveira, regrets the incident but reminds that the bullfighting festival has been held in Coruche “for many years” and that “incidents” sometimes happen.
“These activities involve risks, but they are part of the identity and traditions of Ribatejo, which has a strong connection to bullfighting activities. People see themselves reflected in this activity,” states the mayor.
