The first trial session, scheduled for September 24 at 2:30 PM, will serve to identify and hear the defendant, should she choose to make a statement.
According to the accusation, which Lusa had access to, the defendant, between 2011 and 2019 and at the time responsible for the School Social Action Service, “carried out a plan that allowed her to appropriate a total amount of 220,500.41 euros.”
This amount was channeled into 10 bank accounts held by herself and her family members, over which she had control, the accusation states.
Her duties included instructing and organizing administrative processes related to the allocation of funds provided by the Directorate-General of School Establishments (DGEsTE) for merit scholarships, textbooks, school insurance, and transportation for students with special educational needs. The suspect “fabricated documents intended to prove the beneficiaries’ (students’) right to support when they did not have it,” the accusation highlights.
Furthermore, according to the accusation, the defendant “altered other documents by entering the IBAN of her bank accounts and erased documents, writing the IBAN or NIB of her bank accounts where the student beneficiary’s IBAN or NIB should have been placed.”
“With the implementation of the computer platform (in 2014/2015), she began to register the names of students as beneficiaries of social support, corresponding them to the IBAN of the accounts she held,” it states.
Meanwhile, following a disciplinary process, the woman was dismissed in 2020 and is now accused of the crimes of embezzlement, document forgery, and computer fraud.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested the forfeiture of the funds illicitly appropriated by the defendant to the State and her conviction for payment.
