The Monserrate Palace in Sintra was burglarized in the early hours of Tuesday, with two vases of “considerable” value being stolen, as revealed by the General Command of the Republican National Guard (GNR). The alert was given to the GNR by the security guard of the premises.
The crime was carried out by climbing the monument and subsequently breaking a window.
At the moment, police investigations are underway to determine who the suspects are, as they fled after committing the crime.
Since this is a crime related to cultural heritage, the Judicial Police (PJ) was called to the scene and is in charge of investigating the case.
The company Parques de Sintra, responsible for managing the cultural heritage of the municipality, has been contacted but has not yet responded.
