A 21-year-old woman died early Saturday morning after falling from a building in Odivelas, Lisbon.
According to the Judicial Police (PJ), the incident occurred in the early hours of the 24th, in a building in Colinas do Cruzeiro.
There were attempts at resuscitation by INEM (National Institute of Medical Emergency), which were unsuccessful, and death was declared at the scene.
The PJ was called to investigate the situation, but according to what they reported on Thursday, “there are no indications of crime.”
Today, the Association of Young Doctors of Portugal shared a post on social media, mourning the death of Amara Shakirah Marques Aliz, who was a 3rd-year medical student.
“A Mozambican citizen, the student from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon died tragically a few days before celebrating her 22nd birthday, following a fall from the fourth floor of a building located in the Odivelas area (Colinas Cruzeiro) in Lisbon,” the association writes in the caption, noting that the autopsy has already taken place and that the body “will soon be transferred to Maputo.”
The association presents its condolences, also sharing a bit of this young woman’s story, who left Mozambique in 2020 with “determination to provide a better life” for her family. “She worked tirelessly, not only to excel academically at the University of Lisbon but also to ensure a future in which she could support her family. This unexpected death has created an immeasurable void and left her family facing a profound emotional and financial crisis,” they add.
The association also mentions that a GoFundMe page has been created “to support the family with various legal costs, repatriation of the body, and additional expenses.”
