Process of recovering teachers’ length of service begins

The recovery of teachers’ frozen service time, which will last for four years, begins today with around 5,000 teachers with confirmed data, less than 10% of those who have already accessed the platform to recognize this time.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MECI) confirmed on Friday that the effects of the full recovery of service time will begin to reach primary and secondary school teachers “as early as September, fulfilling the commitment made by the government”.

According to the Ministry, so far, “7,154 teachers have already validated their data, of which 5,327 have had their data confirmed by the schools and are in a position to receive the respective salary adjustment in September”.

The remaining 1,827 files have also been validated by the teachers, but are still “awaiting confirmation by the school principal”, according to the press office.

The deadline for completing each process, with a view to paying the salary adjustments in September, has been extended to the end of today.

The recovery of the six years, six months and 23 days of work that was frozen during the Troika period has been one of the main planks of the teachers’ struggle in recent years, leading thousands of teachers to take to the streets and stage many strikes.

The current Ministry of Education team reached an agreement with the unions in May, on a model that provides for a phased recovery over four years.
