Traffic circulation has been restored on the A1 lanes that were closed after an accident involving a heavy goods vehicle in Santarém.
According to information provided by the Republican National Guard (GNR) of Santarém around 6:20 PM, “traffic has already been reopened on the left and central lanes.”
The same source also mentioned that the damaged vehicle has been removed from the road, a situation that had caused queues of up to 5 km in the North-South direction.
Due to the situation, only the right lane still has some restrictions, as cleaning work is being carried out.
The accident occurred near the Santarém service area. Until traffic circulation was restored, alternatives for those wanting to reach Santarém involved taking National Road 3. Those heading to Lisbon had to detour from the A1 to the A8.
