According to statements made to Lusa news agency, a source from the Sub-Regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection of the Alentejo Litoral indicated that this section of EN390, near S. Domingos, in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém, Setúbal district, was reopened to traffic at 17:09.

Road circulation had been cut off following a collision involving two passenger vehicles, for which the authorities were alerted at 13:57.

A source from the GNR’s Setúbal Territorial Command added that the “head-on collision” caused “six injuries, of which five were serious and one was minor.”

“The injured, three males and three females, are between 3 and 83 years old,” said the guard source, specifying that the minor injury was sustained by “a 3-year-old girl.”

According to the sub-regional civil protection command, two of the seriously injured were transported to Beja hospital, while the other victims were taken to hospitals in Lisbon.

Of these, two seriously injured were taken to S. José Hospital, one of them by helicopter, and one seriously injured and the minor injury case were taken to Santa Maria Hospital.

The accident on EN390 involved the mobilization of a total of 28 operatives, supported by 11 vehicles and a helicopter, including resources from firefighters, GNR, and the National Institute of Medical Emergency.
