A 26-year-old American woman was rescued late Thursday afternoon, September 5th, after falling from a cliff while walking in the Boca do Inferno area in the municipality of Cascais.
The alert was given at 7:20 PM through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon) for “an unconscious person in the water,” revealed the National Maritime Authority (AMN) in a statement.
The Maritime Police, Cascais Lifesaving Station, Cascais Volunteer Firefighters, and the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (INEM) were immediately activated to the scene.
Upon arrival, emergency medical personnel found that “the victim had been removed from the water by bystanders – who were in the vicinity – to a rocky area.”
The woman was subsequently taken out of the water and “promptly assisted through resuscitation maneuvers,” with the cardiorespiratory arrest being reversed. She was then urgently transported to a hospital unit.
The incident was handled by the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Cascais.
