The Judicial Police (PJ) seized 260 kilograms of cocaine in a warehouse in the northern region of the country and arrested a Portuguese national on suspicion of “being part of a transnational criminal organization dedicated to introducing large quantities of this type of narcotic into Europe.”
In a statement, the PJ explained that “as part of an investigation led by the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action of Vila Nova de Famalicão, all the narcotic product was seized. It had arrived days earlier by sea, inside a container of corn for milling, originating from a Latin American country.”
If the drugs seized in this operation, called ‘Vira Milho’ (Turn Corn), had reached “the illicit distribution circuits,” it would have been enough for at least 1.3 million individual doses, the authority estimates.
“During the proceedings, several searches were carried out, and existing evidence was consolidated. The detainee will be presented to the judicial authority for initial questioning and application of coercive measures,” the statement concludes.
