The European Commission transferred to Portugal, until the end of 2022, 81% of the amount programmed in Portugal 2020 (PT 2020), placing the country in seventh place among the states that received the most.
“By the end of 2022, 21,926 million euros were transferred to Portugal as interim payments made by the European Commission (EC) as a result of the execution of operations financed by European funds allocated to Portugal 2020,” disclosed the latest bulletin of the European Union funds.
Thus, Brussels has already transferred to Portugal 81% of the amount programmed in PT 2020.
At the end of December, Portugal ranked second in terms of the interim payment rate, taking into account the States with the largest financial envelopes (7,000 million euros).
Portugal is 6.4 percentage points above the European average (74.6%).
Considering all the member states, Portugal is in seventh place behind Poland, Italy, Spain, France, Romania and Germany.
The EC transferred a total of 360,378 million euros to the 28 member-states, with Portugal receiving 6% of this amount.
In the period in question, payments to beneficiaries amounted to 23,200 million euros of funds, equivalent to 86% of the total funds of PT 2020.
Competitiveness and internationalization stands out with the highest concentration of payments (€ 7180 million), followed by human capital (€ 4339 million) and rural development (€ 4045 million).
The highest volume of payments occurred in the ERDF – European Regional Development Fund, with 627 million euros compared to September of the same year.
In turn, at the end of the year, fund approvals stood at 31,200 million euros to support 54,000 million euros of investments.
At the end of the second half of the year, 23 billion euros of funds had been executed.
With an overall allocation of around €26 billion, the PT 2020 program consists of a partnership agreement between Portugal and the European Commission, “which sets out the programming principles and priorities for Portugal’s economic, social and territorial development policy between 2014 and 2020”.
The first calls for proposals of the PT 2020 program were opened in 2015.
