Mainland vessels have exhausted more than 80% of the emperor fishing quota, with catches of the species “beryx spp” banned from Thursday, but there are exceptions, the Directorate General of Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services has announced.

“Looking at the catch data for this stock to date, it appears that the level of utilization of the quota allocated to vessels registered in continental ports has exceeded 80%,” reads a note from the Directorate General of Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services (DGRM) published today.

Consequently, as of 00:00 on June 15, fishing for alfonsinos “beryx spp” is prohibited.

Landings of these fish are also prohibited from this date, with the exception of alfonsinos (beryx decadactylus), for which landings of up to 5% of the total are permitted as by-catch.

The DGRM is a central service of the direct state administration, with administrative autonomy, whose aim is to develop maritime safety and services, implement fisheries policies and preserve resources.
