A magnitude 3.4 earthquake on the Richter scale was recorded today in the Algarve, with its epicenter approximately 30 kilometers south of Albufeira. The earthquake was felt but did not cause any personal injuries or material damage.
The Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) updated its initial information, now reporting that the earthquake, recorded at 05:48 AM, “was felt with a maximum intensity of III (modified Mercalli scale).”
The institute added that the earthquake “did not cause personal injuries or material damage,” emphasizing that the information will be updated if the situation warrants it.
According to the organization, locating the epicenter of an earthquake is a “complex physical and mathematical process that depends on the data set, algorithms, and seismic wave propagation models.” As a result, different agencies may produce slightly different results.
