André Villas-Boas’ collection shows “passion on wheels” at Museu do Caramulo

Cars, motorcycles and automobilia items that portray André Villas-Boas’ experiences and emotional connection to the motorized universe will be on display from Thursday at the Museu do Caramulo.

Personally curated by the now president of FC Porto, the exhibition “A passion on wheels: André Villas-Boas Collection” was built up over the years and reflects his various motoring tastes.

The Museu do Caramulo states that these tastes “range from classic sports cars, such as the Lamborghini Miura S, the Porsche 911 RS or the Ferrari F40, to the two-wheeled universe, with such exotic examples as the Confederate Fighter or the Auto Fabrica Type 16”.

“And of course, competition, which André Villas-Boas has been attracted to since he was a child, now fulfilling his dream of being able to collect not only the models of the great protagonists of the past, such as the KTM motorcycles of Cyril Despres and Marc Coma and his own Toyota Hilux, but also those still in action, such as Stéphane Peterhansel’s Peugeot 3008 DKR Maxi and Miguel Oliveira’s KTM RC16.”

But, according to the museum in the municipality of Tondela, in the district of Viseu, “the collection goes even further, demonstrating a genuine passion that surprises with the variety of specimens that include the exotic BAC Mono, the vibrant Citroën C3 WRC and the powerful Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, but also the classic MG Le Mans EX 182 and the popular FIAT 500 L”.

The exhibition also includes “a set of personal artifacts preserved since childhood and which connect Villas-Boas’ passion to all his experiences, from miniatures to race tickets, including the helmets of the legends he crossed paths with”.

“Every passion has its moment of ignition. In André Villas-Boas’ case, it all started with trips to Estoril and Exponor, in a trunk of memories carried by his father, Filipe, and his uncle, Pedro Villas-Boas.”

The Museu do Caramulo believes that André Villas-Boas has created “an extraordinary collection of cars and motorcycles, but more than that, a collection of constantly boiling memories that he is generously exhibiting now – and for the first time – live in Caramulo, a place inseparable from his motoring passion”.

“A Passion on Wheels – André Villas-Boas Collection” will be on display at the Museu do Caramulo until October 20th.

The Museu do Caramulo, which was founded in 1953 and has had more than one and a half million visitors, includes an art collection, a collection of cars, motorcycles and bicycles and a collection of antique toys.

More recently, it extended its activity to the Caramulo Experience Center, a museum center dedicated to motoring.

The museum regularly promotes thematic and temporary exhibitions and various events, such as the Motorclássico Fair, the Caramulo Motorfestival, the Museum in the Street, the Rider – Classic Car and Motorcycle Ride and the Founders’ Race by Cartrack.
