Azorean government inaugurates Corvo Health Unit refurbishment works

The President of the Regional Government of the Azores (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM), José Manuel Bolieiro, will inaugurate the refurbishment works of the Corvo Health Unit on Thursday, as part of a statutory visit to the archipelago’s smallest island.

According to the agenda for the visit, to which Lusa news agency has had access, José Manuel Bolieiro will preside over the inaugural ceremony, scheduled for 10:15 a.m. local time (11:15 a.m. in Lisbon) on Thursday, accompanied by the Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, and the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructure, Berta Cabral.

On December 9, 2022, the President of the Government of the Azores signed the consignments for work worth around one million euros on the school and health unit on the island of Corvo, criticizing the legacy left by the previous PS executive.

“These are requalification and extension works because it was unacceptable, in the case of the school, not to have a canteen, as well as serious leaks and the need to extend the building of the island’s health unit,” José Manuel Bolieiro told reporters at the time.

The Azorean executive’s statutory visit to the island of Corvo begins on Wednesday afternoon with a meeting between the Regional Government and the Mayor of Corvo, José Manuel Silva (PS), at the Paços do Concelho building, at 15:30.

After the meeting at the town hall, the Azorean government will meet with the Corvo Island Council at 5.15pm in the pavilion of the Mouzinho da Silveira Primary and Secondary School.

On Thursday, the second and final day of the statutory visit, a meeting of the Government Council will take place between 9am and 10am in the pavilion of the Mouzinho da Silveira Primary and Secondary School.

On this day, in addition to the inauguration of the refurbishment of the Corvo Island Health Unit, the President of the Regional Government will preside over the inauguration of the refurbishment of the public space and construction of the Casa da Vigia – Ecomuseum of Corvo, at 11.15 a.m., accompanied by the Regional Secretary for Education, Culture and Sport, Sofia Ribeiro, the Minister for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructure, Berta Cabral, and the Regional Secretary for the Environment and Climate Action, Alonso Miguel.

Also on Thursday morning, the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Food, António Ventura, will meet with the Corvo Agricultural Cooperative, while the Regional Secretary for the Sea and Fisheries, Mário Rui Pinho, will meet with the Corvo Island Fishermen’s Association and the Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, will visit the Santa Casa da Misericórdia.

The Regional Government’s visit to Corvo ends with the reading of the Government Council communiqué, at 11.45am, in the pavilion of the Mouzinho da Silveira Primary and Secondary School.

According to the Azores Statute, the Regional Government must visit each of the islands of the archipelago at least once a year, with the obligation to convene the Government Council on the island visited.
